Join us at Smoking Lily studio for a 4-hour rug weaving workshop with textile artist Lucy Poskitt and clothing designer Trish Tacoma!
Lucy has recreated the traditional rag rug for this class: Working on large 2 x 3-foot frame looms, you will learn how to weave and begin to create a rug of your own using Smoking Lily's Savage Yarn. This yarn is made from leftover screen printed jersey used in the production of their clothing line.
You will learn how to assemble and set up your loom, the mechanics of weaving, how to create shag and how to finish and complete your piece. We'll discuss how to create your own materials for weaving from recycled sources and learn about Smoking Lily's zero-waste program. Along with instruction there will plenty of time during this class to begin your first woven rug, (although due to the size of this project you will finish it at home!)
This is a great class if you want to learn how to weave, or for those of you looking to brush up on your skills and make something BIG.
No experience necessary, all materials provided and yours to take home after class (loom, weaving tools including a shuttle, large wood needle, shed and pick-up sticks, plus instruction booklet and enough yarn for your project).
Light refreshments will be served, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-sensitive options. Class size is limited to 13 students.
***Please note that this is quite a physical class - you will need to be able to stand for four hours and have mobility in both arms. This class is located on the second floor of a building with stair access only.
*** Please note, all workshops are non-refundable, non-transferable to another date.
